Energy Saving for Business

There are many factors to consider in energy saving for business, such as why we would try and reduce energy consumption in a commercial business environment. It is however, very important ensure that the most appropriate technology is selected in order to deliver the required solution to your energy saving for business needs.

The main areas to consider in energy saving for business are

Main distribution

Individual loads

Lighting schemes

Power Efficient Systems Ltd manufactures a number of energy saving for business products, which help to deliver the most cost effective solution to a client’s energy saving needs.

Main Distribution:

An ideal solution would be to use Power factor correction capacitor banks and if these are sized correctly for bulk, correction would increase the power factor (degree of electrical efficiency) to around 1.00pf (100%). This would mean that there would be a reduction in kw/h losses. Also there would be removal of reactive power charges and a reduction in capacity and availability charges, CCL charges (Climate Change Levy), Co2 emissions. EnergyAce voltage optimisation controls the voltage and is ideal for reducing all of these. Worth mentioning that also you can reduce circuit currents which may allow additional plant to be introduced to an otherwise overloaded distribution system without the need for a new larger supply to be installed.

Individual loads:

Power factor correction direct on line capacitor banks and semi-automatic capacitor banks are ideal to reduce kw/h losses, Co2 emissions and circuit currents of individual motor loads and supply cables.

VSDs Variable Speed Drives, Thyristor Drives and Inverter Drives for example, are ideal for energy saving on individual motors and in particular for fan applications and pumps.  Where volume and speed can be controlled to affect an energy saving using the principal of “Cube Law”, where the power reduces by the cube of the speed change, a 20% reduction in speed delivers a 50% reduction in power these would be suitable.

However, caution should be taken when introducing non linear loads like VSDs etc to a distribution system that has standard power factor correction capacitor banks installed. This is to avoid premature failure of the capacitors, Detuned power factor correction capacitors with harmonic blocking inductors should be installed to ensure trouble free operation.

Lighting Schemes:

The EnergyAce Light lighting power optimiser is ideal for individual lighting boards and lighting supplies. It offers big returns on most types of lighting to reduce kw/h usage, reduce capacity and availability charges, reduce CCL charges and reduce Co2 emissions, EnergyAce Light lighting power optimiser has seen returns of up to 28% on some lighting schemes and works by controlling the voltage without detriment to lighting levels.

All the technologies mentioned and explained above are complementary. These are normally eligible for a Carbon Trust interest free loan with repayments in most cases influenced by the projected savings generated from the chosen technologies
